American Buffalo Gold coins

The American buffalo gold coins made their debut in 2006. They were struck in one ounce of 0.9999 pure 24 karat gold (in contrast with the St. Gaudens gold bullion coins which were struck out of a gold and copper alloy).

Uncirculated american buffalo gold coins generally sell for a $50 to $75 premium over the price of an ounce of gold. The mint sells the proof coins at a premium of about $300 over an ounce of gold. The fractional gold coins from 2008 are scarce and generally command substantial premiums.
